Home Gym Set Up
My son organized my yoga locker |
I am a want-to-be gym girlie. A future fitness maven. A buff-body in the making. And I also don’t want to do anything at all, ever. But in all actuality, I’ve almost always done something physically active on a regular basis, just not always consistently.
As a child, I took ballet for a few years. In junior high, I cheered and played basketball. I found Cross Country in eighth grade and fell in love with running. Track was my next love, and but for one failed year as a jumper, I was a mid-to-long distance runner.
Though the plan was to continue running in college, my body and support system ran dry (so punny) and I stopped altogether. I started yoga in my early twenties, got back into running here and there, had babies, and tried to figure out how to be a mom, a wife, a grown up and have hobbies that made me feel good all at the same time.
Over the years, I’ve gone to gyms, yoga studios, and tried training on my own. My biggest obstacle is myself. Consistency and dedication to a routine and an outcome always dissipates, and I fall into an endless stop and go cycle. I used to feel bad about it. Now, I’ve realized that there is just an ebb and flow to things in my life and I just let it be what it is. I don’t beat myself up, and I don’t let myself stop everything.
I try to maintain healthy habits and regular movement, even if it’s just walking a few times a week. That is my normal baseline. And I add in things from there. Right now, I am truly craving a body reset and more movement. I want to build a higher level of health and strength so I can stay as strong and healthy as possible. I am at an age where things can go downhill rapidly if I don’t pay attention to myself.
We’ve been working on building our home gym for awhile now. We invested in a really nice NordicTrac treadmill during the pandemic. We put my husband’s ancient but quality weight set back into service a couple of years ago. We just scored a really nice bike from friends at a great price, and my super-basic-inexpensive Pilates reformer will be delivered later this week. I’ve collected yoga accessories over the years, and the odd resistance bands here and there, as well. If you want to see what our basic set up is, here is the video!
My goal is to eliminate as many excuses as possible in my journey to being my healthiest, happiest self. So, I’m starting where I am most happy and comfortable in my skin…at home. And I just ordered a few cute workout wear pieces to make my workouts feel extra fun. I’ll show you those later!
Cheers to feeling your best,
xx, linds
