First Step, Fiber

A few months ago, I started a wellness challenge for women of a certain life stage. It was online, low commitment, but also made sense for where I am—a forty-something woman experiencing possible midlife hormonal issues, and a lifelong battle with belly issues. (Girl—I’m Gen X, with IBS lol.)

I noticed within days of meeting my fiber goals (minimum of 25-30/day) that my stomach issues diminished and I was eating/snacking/craving less throughout my day. I felt fuller for longer, and had a better digestive routine. Nobody needs more detail than that.

Over the last 3-4 weeks, I’ve stopped focusing directly on fiber intake and have noticed a return of previous symptoms, so the first step for my Winter Arc is to refocus on and track my fiber intake. The easiest way for me to get it all in is to get as much as I can first thing in the morning. My favorite combo usually contains fresh raspberries, whole grains, avocado, and this amazing coconut yogurt from Wegmans. I always make sure I have a decent amount of protein with breakfast, as well, so eggs and sometimes smoked salmon round out my morning meal.

My goal is not to “diet” or “lose weight.” I want my body to work efficiently and I want to feel as confident as I can. I also want to ensure peak immune system function, which I have found is rooted in proper nutrition. We can talk more about that another time.

So for my first step, I’m refocusing on fiber. Next on the list is hydration. How about you? What is the first thing you are paying attention to for this season?

xx, linds
