Desert Vibes
Camelback Mountain |
The one thing I can say about the desert is I never expected to love the dry, prickly landscape. Ok, so I’m not out in the wild, but rather have a first hand view of Camelback Mountain from my room at The Phoenician Resort…but it’s beyond gorgeous. We hiked around the Cactus Garden for a little while yesterday and it felt so different from being in the woods back home, it almost seemed like a Disney movie set. That’s how my son described it when I sent him photos. I can’t unsee the resemblance now.
This morning I’ve enjoyed “sleeping in” due to the time change. It’s such a different experience just worrying about getting myself ready for the day. It’s so quiet in my room, and still darker out than I expected. A couple of my friends want to hit a cute coffee shop in downtown Scottsdale this morning before registration opens for our event. Oh, did I tell you I’m here for the Harper Ellis Hair Co. Legacy Summit? It’s CRAZY to think about the fact that I have built a life and career that allows me the chance to experience things like this—from “doing hair.”

This week is all about business growth, learning to lead, understanding how to scale, and really firing that passion for building our legacies. If you’ve been in the beauty industry over the last decade or two, you know it takes so much more than knowing how to do hair to succeed. The lesson I’ve learned throughout my time with Harper Ellis is pushing my brand (and myself) out of my comfort zone. Truly looking at what I WANT, figuring out what my values are and creating an ALIGNED business. My biggest challenge has always been building awareness and being ruthless about promoting myself and actually implementing changesnthat help me move the needle on my goals. It takes so much consistency, especially when marketing can be another full time job on its own.
It’s so easy to feel like it’s all too much. I’ve really started focusing on is how I use social media, and the ways I connect with people through different platforms.. Take this blog, for example. Its purpose is not to advertise my business specifically, but it is one of my favorite creative outlets and I have always loved sharing my experiences with others. I’ve realized that the people who are the best fit for my client base are probably going to be the same ones who are interested in learning more about who I am as a human.
My writing is one of the most personal, human things about me, and I know I need to share it with the world even if it feels uncomfortable. It’s the same with Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. I’ve started shifting my focus to sharing myself, my journey, and my life more, rather than blasting pretty hair day after day. That’s not what people want to see. Anyone can do good hair, but we’re all craving connection and real, authentic people. That’s who we want to spend our time with, isn’t it? Speaking of people, I’ve got to get ready to meet my friends for coffee…
xx,
Linds🌵🏜️
