How To Wash Your Hair, Part 1
Hello, Beauties!
Yes, I know you all know how to wash your hair...or at least you wash your hair the same way you have since you first transitioned from tubby-time with a mom scrub to big-girl shower with all the shampoo you could squeeze into your hand and plop on the top of your head kind of way.
Yes, I've seen the shock on your face when I can talk you through your exact routine without ever asking about it. How? I've done probably no fewer than 100,000 shampoos in my career, and almost as many consultations. The dry areas, the greasy areas, the weird way it smells even after you wash it. Gross, yes, but that's a real thing I've discovered over the years. Happens to us all, but don't worry, I can help you.
The biggest part of today's conversation will cover the main difference between drugstore and salon shampoos, the proper way to apply shampoo, and than what you do next.
First, besides the quality and quantity of active ingredients, the biggest thing that drugstore shampoo has over salon brands is WATER. The salon brands I use, specifically Moroccanoil, Olaplex, and ColorProof, are so super-concentrated they come out of the bottle with almost a gel consistency. Why so thick? Because you get more of the good stuff, and less of the free stuff that's already in your shower--water!The other thing that most people love so much about drugstore shampoo is the lather...but in reality that is marketing made addictive with the use of a stronger detergent and you guessed it, more water. Don't worry, when you use professional shampoo properly, you will get all the rich and luscious lather you desire!
Ok, here's the basic process. Wet your hair thoroughly. Apply a small (whoa! too much!) amount of product into your palm, and emulsify it between your hands. Get a little spritz from your shower head, emulsify it again, then with your head tilted back slightly, pat your hands around your scalp, evenly distributing the shampoo. Then just a quick dip under the spray, and you can start sudsing your scalp!
Sounds easy, right? Next time we'll talk about Rinsing!!!
